Keeping Horizons accountable - video

Horizons is charged with protecting our environment but time and again it is found to not be living up that task. It needs to be held accountable and it is part of councillors role to make sure the organisation does its job effectively and fully. We need people on Council who will do that. Please watch the video. Thanks again to Charlie for making it.

Looking after the land so it looks after us - video

This video is about sustainable farming and the need for stronger leadership on this at Horizons Regional Council. We need to be taking much greater care of the land and better matching the use of land to its capability and its effect on other parts of the ecosystem. This includes adding much more value to the products produced rather than just producing more basic commodities. Thanks Dave for the time spent at your farm and thanks Charlie for doing another good job on producing the video.

Safe, clean transport - video

I have a long history of both using and advocating for safe and clean transport options. I got the City Council to implement school safer speed zones. I'm on the national executives of Living Streets Aotearoa and the Trafinz Institute which both work to convince central government of the need for better provision of safer, cleaner, healthier transport. Finally, government is listening.

Here is a video about my approach to Horizons transport role.

Clean rivers - video

Hi folks. Here's the first of several videos Charlie capably produced for me on where I stand on various issues the Regional Council is involved with.

The Race Is ON

On Thursday, nominations for the Manawatu Whanganui (Horizons) Regional Council by-election closed at noon. I'd submitted my nomination on Wednesday. There are 4 others in the race. I hope it will be a clean and informative contest so people really know, before they vote,  who would be best for the region.

Council Nomination

Looking forward to the opportunity to work with others for our land, air, water and region. Please share the news with your friends, family and whanau.

Councils' sewage treatment not pretty

What do you reckon? Is it good enough that only a third of our regions municipal wastewater treatment plants are complying with their consents?

I don't think so but it's what happening. A June report to Horizons Environment Committee stated that of 46 treatment plants only 16 were fully compliant with 22 being significantly at fault.

Horizons should be demanding better performance from district councils instead of giving them almost forever to clean up their

act.

(see paragraph 7.1.6 of this report)

2WalkandCycle Nomination

Later this month Palmerston North is holding the 2WalkandCycle conference. I've been nominated for an outstanding contribution to cycling award and the winners of that and other awards will be announced at the conference.
Here's a short video Luke kindly made for me 'cos I wanted credit to go to those others who have worked so long and hard to improve things for people riding bikes.

Penultimate by-election video

Just summing up my by-election campaign. Please watch and share this 2nd to last video. Thanks to Brent and once again to Charlie for making it.
